    Candy Land Ball

Last night I dreamed the sweetest dream,

We were smiling one and all

With happy hearts and eager eyes,

We were dressing for the Candy Land Ball

Candy striped suits for the little boys,

With hats and watches and rings

The girls had gowns of taffeta,

White gloves and purses to swing

    Winding down candy cane lane,

We approached the great sugar hall

A gingerbread man ushered us in:

“Welcome to the Candy Land Ball!”

    Chorus:

The Candy Land Ball, the Candy Land Ball,

    Everybody was there

Dancing and laughing in sparkling light,

    Music filled the air

Carousel rides and long rainbow slides,

All the fun of the fair

    Lollies and sweeties, confection dreams,

Come true at the Candy Land Ball

We danced round the Rock Candy Mountain,

We climbed in the lollipop trees

We drank from root beer fountains,

Dipped our toes in the chocolate seas.

We danced till our eyes grew sleepy,

    and long into the night

We found floating beds of marshmallows

stacked with pillows of Turkish Delight

    The morning sun is climbing,

I awake from my magical dream.

What’s this? My purse is filled with gumdrops

and your hat with jelly beans

Have you seen the Okra Man around New Orleans?

Mr. Okra is a fruit and vegetable vendor who travels the city of New Orleans vending from his truck. His unmistakable call over his P.A. system—“I have cantaloupes! I have tomatoes!”—can be heard from blocks away, and people await him on their front porches so they can buy their fresh produce for the week. Learn all about Mr. Okra in this article by Ian McNulty for New Orleans Magazine.

The Confetti Park Players are so delighted to feature Mr. Okra on a song on their CD, We’re Going to Confetti Park. More info at confettipark.com/music

This is a traditional adapted by Katy Hobgood Ray and Arthur Robinson (Mr. Okra). The song was produced by Katy and Matt Aguiluz and recorded at Marigny Recording Studio in New Orleans.

Featuring: Scott Albert Johnson, harmonica; Arthur Robinson, vocals; David Rosser, guitar. Kids chorus: Lily Bell, Luna Bell, Elisa McDonald, Charleston McLean, Millie Moffett, Hrilina Ramrakhiani, Sadie Strong, and Virginia Strong.

  • A song for Santi – “Dream Big, Little Santi”

A song for Santi – “Dream Big, Little Santi”

A song, and another Kirkus honor, for The Little Mouse Santi!

Today’s the day! Jan. 15, 2015, the official publication date of The Little Mouse Santi! To celebrate, we are releasing a song called “Dream Big, Little Santi,” composed by author David Ray and Kathryn Hobgood Ray. The song is performed by Kathryn (vocals and mellotron) and Tim Robertson (guitar). It was produced by Matt Aguiluz at Marigny Recording Studios in New Orleans.

As for Louis Ray, his favorite line from the song is: “Elephants and dancing bears are filling up my eyes.” He helped his parents settle on word choice, particularly for this line.

You can download the single through Amazon, iTunes, or CDBaby. It will also be featured on the upcoming “Confetti Park Players” CD hopefully out in April 2015!

Also, we’ve just learned that the Kirkus starred review for The Little Mouse Santi will be featured in the 1/15 print issue of Kirkus Reviews magazine. This is a great honor! Less than 10% of all indie reviews are selected. We are absolutely thrilled.

    Dream big, everyone!
